who we are
Landmine Victims. Silk Products
We are Weaves of Cambodia, a creative weaving studio in the northern province of Preah Vihear, an area known for having the highest number of land mine victims in the country. A partner project of Village Focus International, our dynamic community enterprise is located in the provincial capital of Tbaeng Meanchey and employs land mine survivors and disabled individuals, putting special emphasis on women and their families.
what we do
Our project originated in 1998 with five women making silk products and now employs over 40 rural artisans who use their artistic skills to earn a sustainable income. We strive to uphold Fair Trade values by ensuring that all team members are able to enjoy a healthy and safe working environment.
Artisans are trained on simple looms but taught sophisticated techniques and work only with the highest quality materials and dyes. The entire process involves designing products and selecting patterns and colors, as well as weaving, spinning and dyeing the silk. Creative designs, textures and colors inspired by the spirit of Cambodia's traditions and culture make for unique and elegant pieces. Our world-class woven fabrics are sold throughout Europe, Hong Kong and the United States.
Village Focus International provides technical assistance in the form of business management, product development, marketing, organizational development and accounting. They also help to monitor the quality of the woven fabrics, as well as coordinate shipments to overseas buyers.
