who we are
Veterans For America (VFA) is an international humanitarian organization that addresses the causes, conduct and consequences of war through programs of advocacy and service for victims of conflict around the world. VFA operates in Cambodia as Veterans International (VI).
VI was launched in late 1991 and has established itself as a well-known and trustworthy organization working with landmine victims and other persons with disabilities (PWDs). All of our programs and activities are geared towards providing PWDs with adequate mobility to enable them to gain access to and participate in mainstream community activities.
what we do
At present, VI operates three physical rehabilitation centres in Cambodia. Our goal is to mainstream our support for PWDs and their families through community development by providing them with prosthetic devices, counseling on issues related to self-esteem, and assisting them in becoming independent in daily living. We also provide education and referral for job trainings and placements, direct assistance and grants for income-generating activities, and aid in the formation of self-help groups.
Over the years, VI staff members have worked hard to alter the way Cambodians perceive people with disabilities. Now, we are focusing on transforming the way Cambodians with disabilities view themselves. Our efforts have taught us that providing mobility is not the only way to improve lives. We also work towards improving the quality of life of PWDs through socialization, education and by providing job opportunities.
