who we are
MAG, a co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, is a humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of local communities worldwide.
MAG currently works in 11 countries around the world and has been clearing UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) in Lao PDR since 1994. Our UXO Visitor Information Centre on the Mekong River in Vientaine provides visitors with the complete UXO story.
what we do
Lao PDR is the most heavily bombed nation in the world (per capita). At least two million tonnes of ordnance was dropped on the country between 1964 and 1973. It is estimated that up to 30% of this ordnance did not detonate. Decades later, UXO still contaminates rural areas in half the country. UXO can explode if disturbed, and continues to kill and injure people. It also keeps people in poverty by preventing them from using the land.
