who we are

LDWDC

The Lao Disabled Women's Development Center was established in 2002 to provide disabled women in Laos with the support, knowledge and skills they need to be self-sufficient, productive members of the community. Located 20kms from Vientiane, past the Friendship Bridge on the way to Buddha Park, we are one of the few vocational training centers that welcome young women with a disability. Before our Center was established no training institution in Laos considered the specific needs of disabled women.

what we do

We believe that for people with disabilities to become independent and self-confident, they need opportunities for education and skills training, as well as jobs or help to start their own business. To support this, we offer training in the following areas:

  • sewing and garment making
  • weaving
  • paper making
  • computer awareness
  • English language
  • small business skills

Our trainees are taught practical income generation skills that they can easily apply in their own villages. By demonstrating that they are working independently and at the same time earning an income, our graduates provide important role models to other physically disabled people in the community.
