who we are

Heritage House

The Heritage Information Centre (Heuanchan) is part of a project using information and communications technology to aid in the management of World Heritage sites and also promote sustainable development. Working in cooperation with UNESCO, La Maison du Patrimoine (Heritage House) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology are documenting Luang Prabang's historic, environmental and cultural heritage into an extensive database and also educating the local community and business sector on the need to sustain Luang Prabang's unique assets.

what we do

Over a three-year period, our project is both developing a detailed database as well as making it accessible to all. Anticipated benefits include:

  • raising awareness of the importance of preserving Luang Prabang's unique heritage
  • providing information on conservation and renovation methods
  • encouraging tourists to learn as much as possible about heritage conservation and sustainable tourism
  • promoting Luang Prabang as a community and tourist destination with a strong commitment to conservation and sustainable development

Heritage House is located in Ban Xieng Mouane, in Luang Prabang's historic centre, behind Xieng Mouane temple. Along with a new ethnographic museum and exhibition space, a café/bar will be organized for the future. Opening hours are 9 am to 6 pm, seven days a week. By 2007 and 2008 similar facilities will also be operating at Boua Kang Bum and Villa Vat Mai respectively.
