Supporting Indigenous Communities in Northeast Cambodia
The Bunong Information Centre (BIC) is a non-profit venture located within “The Middle of Somewhere” café. Replete with authentic Bunong décor, it is located along the main road in Sen Monorom near the market.
what we do
Indigenous Bunong (a.k.a. Phnong) walk great distances from their remote villages to Sen Monorom bringing vegetables and other items for sale at the central market. The BIC is a place for rest, recreation and non-formal education for the vendors. They are given access to Khmer literacy, life skills, health information, and supplied with mosquito nets, vitamins, agricultural tips and basic information on micro-enterprise development.
Bunong seamstresses also work at the centre, designing and sewing high quality garments, handbags and other accessories using cloth woven in the villages on traditional back-strap looms.
