Bach Ma National Park

who we are

Bach Ma National Park is located in central Vietnam province of Thua Thien Hue. It was created in 1991 to protect the centre of the last corridor of forest stretching from the South China Sea to the Annamite mountain range at the border with the Lao PDR.

With steep mountains and dense forests, Bach Ma is home to a wide variety of animals and plants, thanks to variations in altitude - at the base of the mountains is a tropical monsoon forest while at the top is a sub-tropical forest - and its location within the transition area of two bio-geographical zones containing species from northern and southern Vietnam.

what we do

A former French hill station now open to the public, Bach Ma offers a range of activities - carried out in collaboration with local villagers - for tourists, ranging from tours to local home gardens and bird watching.

The park also conducts research on its biodiversity, engages in environmental education and protects the natural resources from poaching or illegal logging. In addition, the park supports an estimated 12,000 households living inside the buffer zone.

Many of the villagers and very poor, and the park is continuously finding a balance between conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources. To achieve this objective, the park has launched several projects, including the promotion of planting cash crops like fruit trees or introducing improved animal breeding stock, to provide alternative sources of income for those people without damaging the environment.
